22 Things I’ve Learnt in 22 Years

22 Things I've Learnt in 22 Years, giant balloons, 22 balloons, 22nd birthday

I don’t know about you, I’m feeling 22!

On Friday I completed my 22nd year of life and aside from drinking lots of prosecco, belting out Taylor Swift and shovelling cake in to my mouth at rapid rates, I also reflected on what I’ve learnt about life thus far.

  1. Not everyone will like you, and that’s okay (you don’t need to like them either)
  2. Nothing good will ever come out of reading someone else’s texts or emails
  3. Have some savings. Even if it’s just a little each month, you never know when you’ll need it to fall back on
  4. It’s totally okay to decline plans because you’d rather spend the evening alone in your pyjamas
  5. But I guarantee that once you’ve got some mascara on and are out the door, you won’t regret saying yes either
  6. Buy multipacks of big black knickers from Tesco or Primark so that you don’t have to cry about spoiling your Victoria’s Secrets once a month
  7. It’s never too late or too early to follow your dreams
  8. Hoover the carpets on the ‘hard floor’ setting, the results are enough to give Martha Stuart a boner
  9. Make time to pick up the phone each week, whether it’s to call your Mum or your best friend
  10. You will never regret a workout (sorry, but it’s true)
  11. When buying clothes there are only two questions to ask yourself; do I need it (pants, socks etc)? Do I love it? If you don’t feel absolutely wonderful in something then put it back on the hanger
  12. Always pee after sex
  13. Change your bed sheets once a week
  14. But ain’t nobody got time to iron them
  15. Do not buy foundation that is darker than your skin tone; that’s what bronzer is for
  16. Don’t do something because you feel it’s what’s expected of you, be it attending an event or applying for a grad job
  17. Cheerlead others achievements and mean it; motivation, happiness and success are contagious
  18. A can of coke and a packet of ready salted hula-hoops is the ultimate hangover cure
  19. If you think littering is acceptable in any form (gum and fag butts included), you’re a massive arsehole
  20. Time really does heal
  21. Give your mental health the same care and respect that you do your physical health
  22. Nothing is quite as good for the soul as travelling is

LOVE THIS!! Blogging has really taught me about how not everyone will like you but thats okay- the people that do like you are MUCH more important.

As they say- those you matter dont mind and those who mind dont matter!!

Love this. Very simple but true. I like a fun night out, but I hate it when someone makes me feel guilty because of spending my evening in pj with ice-cream and a good tv serie 😀 Also it took me 25 years to realise I need to care about my mental health just as well as my body.

So many cracking points! I totally agree with only buying things that you really love, I’m so guilty of buying things and saying ‘I’ll wear it when I’ve lost weight/tanned/grown my hair’, then hanging it in my wardrobe for it to guilt trip me until I give in and whizz it to Oxfam.

On a side note, did you ever imagine you’d type ‘the results are enough to give Martha Stuart a boner’ when you started this blog? Haha!
