Recently I received a very exciting PR package (one that I may even have shed a tear or two over!) and inside was none other than Charlotte Tilbury’s famous Magic Cream. It came within The Gift of Goddess Skin Travel Kit in a 15ml tub, and I was also lucky enough to receive a full size bottle of the cult brand’s latest release ‘Youth Glow’. Aware that, at full size, Charlotte’s Magic Cream retails at £1.40 PER MIL I was both incredibly excited and somewhat apprehensive to use it.
I’m one of those people who burns their favourite candle (Diptyque ‘Baies’ for all you secret admirers) for approximately 6 minutes before panicking and blowing it out. I don’t really like to save things for best because I’m a firm believer that every day should be special, but I do like to savour things. Quite honestly, I was a little afraid that I’d get hooked on a £70 a tub face cream and get reprimanded by my accountant (me, lol) and it does seem that my worst fears have come true because oh-holy-hell I think Charlotte’s Magic Cream is about to become a skincare staple in this gals make up bag.
The Gift of Goddess Skin Kit is really good value if you’re unsure about which products may or may not be right for you; for £39 you receive a 15ml tub of the Magic Cream, a 15ml tube of the Goddess Skin Clay Mask and 15ml of Wonder Glow, the latter of which I may even love more than the Magic Cream.
I’ve been using the products for a few weeks now so I thought I’d share a few of my initial thoughts on the two that I would undoubtedly buy again…
You only have to dab a fingertip into the Magic Cream to realise that this is a high end product. There’s nothing sticky or watery about it and whilst it does feel noticeably thicker and more indulgent than your average moisturiser, I found it absorbed quickly and didn’t seem to be clogging my pores. Initially I assumed, due to the richness, that I’d only be using it as a night cream but I’ve found myself applying it before make up too (which is quite dangerous because now I’m using it at double speed!).
Thankfully, a little goes a long way and I find that warming it up between my finger tips first helps to make the most of every last drop. I’ve never really known ‘what kind of skin’ I have and multiple facialists (is that a word? it is now) have given conflicting answers. What I do know is that I suffer from breakouts and blackheads on my chin, but dryer skin around my forehead and cheek bones so I often struggle to find a one-size-fits-all product. I’ve tried multiple big name brands (Liz Earle, Kiehls, Clinique) as well as several drug store options and never felt that I’ve nailed my moisturiser.
After a few weeks of using Magic Cream I’ve noticed that my skin looks less tired and my chin in particularly, which usually feels quite rough with bumpy little blackheads (sexy or what!) is significantly smoother. I’d love to tell you that you’ll get the same results from a £6 drug store tub but experience tells me otherwise and although I haven’t woken up looking like Megan Fox, this cream does well and truly live up to its magical reputation.
I hadn’t really heard of Wonder Glow before receiving it, nor have I ever been that bothered about using a primer. I’ve always figured that whilst it’s a nice touch, it doesn’t make a dramatic difference to the longevity of my make up and it’s just another expense. Oh, but I hadn’t met Wonder Glow.
If I’m forced to choose, it’s definitely my favourite thing that arrived in that lovely little package. I popped it on one morning without really thinking about it and my skin both felt and looked instantly better, softer and brighter. It’s heralded for its transformative properties for sleep-deprived skin and I can honestly say that this is a product that does exactly what it says on the tin. So much so that over the last few weeks I’ve felt considerably more confident going bare faced with just a touch of Wonder Glow to brighten my skin and give it a soft dewy look.
At £38.50 for 40ml it’s considerably better value than the Magic Cream and I can’t see myself draining my 15ml sample any time soon, despite using it daily. When I do, I’ll definitely be restocking this one time and time again.
You can also buy the Magic Cream and Wonderglow in a Duo Gift Set for £98, which saves £10.50 on the individual costs.
I received these products with compliments from Charlotte Tilbury. All views and imagery are my own!
