In the past I’ve been really lazy with my skin, using the odd baby wipe and a bit of supermarket face wash, often forgetting about moisturising altogether! In the corner of a warehouse turned Italian market a short walk from Elephant and Castle station, surrounded by fresh pizza, steaming mugs of mulled wine and pop-up chasing hipsters lies the entrance to the Winter Night Garden. A large bookcase emblazoned with titles we all mean to get round to reading stands aside a majestic mahogany wardrobe; I look around for Mr Tumnus.

I seldom order pasta when dining out. Usually I try and pick an item on the menu that I’m least likely to cook at home, and pasta is a staple in most cupboards. Even in the nicest restaurants, pasta often lacks a certain something; be it freshness, imagination or simply the labour of love.

Quirky venues and wacky pop-ups are spreading through London like wild fire, so it’s no surprise that in a city where there are restaurants dedicated entirely to cereal, or canned seafood (?!), cinemas with secret entrances and bean-bag chairs, and flash fashion sales that have hipsters queuing throughout the night, London’s first permanent crazy-golf bar was well received.

Choosing the right products for your skin is no easy feat. The market is saturated with lotions and potions promising the earth; ‘ten years younger!’; ‘blackhead banishing!’; ‘baby-soft skin!’. It’s difficult to know what to believe, and with such an array of price tags to match it’s easy to become confused as to what it is you’re actually paying for.

Those clever folk who say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day are definitely my kind of people; I am constantly on a quest for the best coffee, the freshest juice and the kind of menus that can force me out of my comatose state in the morning. The Black Penny on Great Queen Street, minutes from Holborn station and Covent Garden, managed just that.
