When you’re about to embark on a long haul flight (I’m writing this, one eye on the clock, as I get ready to head to the airport to board a 11+ hour flight to Los Angeles) you need to think carefully about what you want to keep you entertained and comfortable on the journey.
ESSENTIALS
- PASSPORT
- Print out of travel insurance number
- Print out of flight details
- Note of accommodation address (particularly if you’re travelling to the US)
- Any travel visas (for the US you need an ESTA)
- Travel wallet with currency
ELECTRONICS
- Laptop (blogging in the sky really is the epitome of working remote!)
- Phone and charger
- Camera (personally, I don’t feel comfortable packing this in my hold luggage)
- Kindle
- Earphones (you do not want to know how many people have previously used the ones provided)
TOILETRIES
Don’t forget, everything has to be under 100ml and fit in a poxy sandwich bag…
- Travel toothbrush and tooth paste
- Mini deodorant
- Mini face wipes (to remove make up and freshen up)
- Hand cream
- Contact lenses
- Lip balm
- Face cream
- Hair tie/grips
ENTERTAINMENT
- Note book and pen
- A book (if you’re not taking a kindle)
- A guide book (swat up on your destination!)
OTHER BITS AND BOBS
- Space Mask (the ultimate relaxation tool)
- Sunglasses
- Sweets
- Chewing gum
- Socks (I usually travel in flip flops and cabins can get chilly with the aircon on!)
- Lightweight cardigan (even if your destination is sizzling hot, the plane might not be)
Have I missed anything that you always pack in your long haul hand luggage? Let me know!

So glad it’s helpful! It can be difficult to remember everything! x
Love this post! When I travel I always bring a few medical stuff, like something to calm your stomach if you feel sick, or headache tablets etc! x

Oh yes! I missed that off! I always try and have ibuprofen on me, though on my last flight that air hostesses were great at giving me some when I felt unwell. x
